Agios Stefanos is the one that has the easiest access, Great Meteoron is the biggest of them all, Roussanou Nunnery (400 steps are involved) and Agios Nikolaos Anapafsas are smallest monasteries, but outstanding choices. Varlaam Monastery (closed on Thursday and Friday) is the one with the best view, while Agia Triada is the 3rd oldest of all at a height of 535m. IMPORTANT ΝΟΤΕ: You must follow the dress code- Women have to keep covered their shoulders and wear skirts above their pants or wear a long dress/skirt. We always recommend to carry your own skirt or cover-up. As for men, they have to wear long pants. The entrance is forbidden to those who don’t follow the dress code.
Kalambaka
The beautiful city of Kalambaka today has over 12,000 inhabitants, built at the foothill of the sacred rocks of Meteora and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country with over 2.5 million tourists visiting it annually. Here, you will have free time to spend it as you wish (drink coffee or have lunch break).

This wonder of nature (characterized by UNESCO as culture heritage) would be worth visiting just for the picturesque landscape even if the monasteries weren’t there. The Old Greek Monasteries blend in perfectly with the surrounding environment creating a once in a lifetime sensation. During the 100-min. ride from Volos Port, our private guide will explain you a lot about geology, history, orthodox religion and the impact Meteora has had on Greece over the centuries. The view from the rocks is breathtaking. Feel the breeze and hear the bells of the communities. The monasteries are still active and six in total. We will choose and visit 2 or 3 of them based on their opening days and hours. After visiting Meteora, we will have a short-break for free time in Kalambaka, and then we will get back to Volos.
